Australia Lunar Rabbit (Series II) 1oz Coloured Silver Coin 2011

This year’s Coloured Edition from the Australian Lunar Silver Coin Series II celebrates the rabbit, the fourth of the twelve animals associated with the ancient Chinese Lunar Calendar. In Chinese culture, people born in the Year of the Rabbit - 1927, 1939, 1951, 1963, 1975, 1987, 1999 and 2011 - are regarded as intelligent, articulate, compassionate and loyal.

Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the coin features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on its obverse.

The coin’s reverse depicts an adult rabbit and a young rabbit in superb colour.  The rabbits are surrounded by foliage and a tree with creepers entwined in its branches.  The Chinese character for ‘rabbit’ and the inscription ‘Year of the Rabbit’ also appear in the design with The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark.

Mintage of 170,000 for the coloured coin without box and COA.
